Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 June 2026

In short

Chatynkowo does not build a profile of you and does not collect personal data. The Site is fully static, has no application server of its own, and uses no cookies. To gauge how popular the page is, we use only GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly, open-source visit counter that counts visits without cookies and without storing your IP address (details in section 4). Anything related to your in-game progress stays on your device.

1. Operator

Chatynkowo is a fan-made, fairytale project inspired by chatynkowo.pl. Given the nature of the Site, the operator limits processing to anonymous, aggregate visit statistics (see section 4) and does not build profiles or gather data that could identify users. For any questions, please reach out via our social profiles: Instagram or Facebook.

2. What we store locally

So that your progress in finding the cottages doesn't disappear when you close your browser, the Site uses the browser's localStorage mechanism. Under the key chatynkowo:state:v1 we keep:

  • the list of identifiers of cottages you've discovered, with the date and time of discovery (ISO timestamps);
  • the list of badge identifiers (the “Skarbiec”/Treasury) you've earned along the way, with the date and time earned.

This data is never sent to any server. It stays in your browser, on your device, and is not shared with anyone.

3. Cookies

The Site does not use cookies — our visit counter (GoatCounter, section 4) is entirely cookieless too. Your progress data lives in localStorage, which is a separate browser mechanism — it is not transmitted with HTTP requests and does not act as a tracking identifier.

4. Analytics, ads, tracking

To gauge the page's popularity we use GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-focused visit counter. GoatCounter uses no cookies, does not track you across sites, and builds no user profile.

Only aggregate, anonymous statistics are collected: per-page view counts, an approximate number of unique visits, the referrer, browser type, and country. Your IP address is used only momentarily — to compute an anonymous, daily-rotating hash that lets visits be told apart — and the IP address itself is never stored.

In addition, when you uncover a cottage by entering its code, an anonymous event is recorded indicating which cottage was found and how many cottages have been found so far in this browser — with no link to you personally. This helps us see which cottages are discovered most often and how far seekers get.

We still do not use Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel, or any marketing or retargeting tools. GoatCounter's data practices are described in the GoatCounter GDPR documentation.

5. External resources

To make the page load quickly, some technical assets are fetched from external content delivery networks (CDNs):

  • marked.js (used to render the story texts) — served from cdn.jsdelivr.net.

The very fact of fetching a file from a CDN may be visible to that CDN's operator (e.g. your IP address, browser headers) — this is how the web works for any site that loads external assets. We do not pass any additional information about you to that CDN.

The footer contains links to Instagram and Facebook. Once you click them, you go to Meta's site and Meta's privacy policy applies. Until you click them, we load no scripts or trackers from those services.

6. Map / navigation

Cottage dialogs may include links to external map services (e.g. Google Maps). Following such a link takes you to a third-party service governed by its own privacy policy.

7. Your control over the data

Because all of your progress lives in your browser, you have full control over it:

  • you can wipe the Site's data at any time by clearing site data in your browser settings (look for “site data”, “cache”, or “localStorage”);
  • private / incognito mode — every visit starts from a clean slate;
  • progress is saved on a specific device and browser. Switching device, switching browser, or clearing storage means the cottages will be waiting for you to discover them again.

8. Children

The Site is friendly to children and does not collect any personal data from them — or from anyone else.

9. Changes to this Policy

This Policy may evolve along with the Site. The current version is always available at this URL; the date of the most recent change is shown at the top of the document.
